  • 6 tablespoons whole milk
  • 5 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 4 cups confectioners' sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 10×15 inch baking pan.
  2. In a saucepan over low heat, melt butter. Stir in water and cocoa powder; bring to a boil then cool slightly.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together sour cream and eggs until smooth.
  4. In a stand mixer, combine flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt; mix thoroughly.
  5. Add the sour cream mixture followed by the cooled chocolate mixture; beat until combined.
  6. Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for about 22-25 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. While the cake bakes, prepare frosting by boiling milk, cocoa powder, and butter in another saucepan; remove from heat and mix in confectioners' sugar and vanilla. Fold in pecans.
  8. Allow the cake to cool slightly before spreading warm frosting over it.
