Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 pounds oranges (about 10 large)
  • 2 cups sugar (or 1.5 cups for low sugar)
  • ¼ cup orange zest
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Thoroughly wash the oranges, then peel them and remove any seeds.
  2. Cut the peels into thin slices for zest and blend the orange segments until smooth to make about 4½ cups of puree.
  3. In a large pot, combine the orange puree, sugar, orange zest, and lemon juice. Stir well.
  4. Cook over medium heat until boiling; then reduce heat and simmer for about 60 minutes until thickened.
  5. Test for setting point using a chilled plate; if it holds shape when cooled, pour into sterilized jars while hot.
  6. Seal tightly and cool at room temperature before refrigerating or storing.
