  • 1 packet taco seasoning or homemade equivalent
  • 8 tostada shells
  • 1 cup refried beans (optional, for spreading on the shells)
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup salsa or pico de gallo
  • 1/4 cup sliced black olives (optional)
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté the onion for 3-4 minutes until soft.
  2. Add garlic and cook for an additional minute. Incorporate the ground beef, breaking it up with a spatula, and cook until browned (6-8 minutes).
  3. Mix in taco seasoning, water, salt, and pepper; simmer for about 5 minutes until thickened.
  4. If using refried beans, heat them up in a separate small pan or microwave, stirring occasionally.
  5. Spread a thin layer of refried beans on each tostada shell. Spoon the ground beef mixture evenly over each shell. Top with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, shredded cheese, sour cream, and salsa or pico de gallo. Garnish with black olives and fresh cilantro if desired.
