Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb beef sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp apple vinegar (or dry apple juice)
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 medium yellow onions, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp grated fresh ginger
  • 1/4 cup beef broth or water
  • 1/2 tsp sugar

Instructions

  1. Prepare all ingredients by slicing the beef, onions, mincing garlic, and grating ginger.
  2. Marinate beef in soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, cornstarch, and apple vinegar for about 10 minutes.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a wok over high heat until shimmering.
  4. Add marinated beef in a single layer and sear for 2 minutes before stir-frying until browned—about another 2 minutes.
  5. Remove the beef and set aside. In the same wok, add more oil if needed and stir-fry onions until translucent. Add garlic and ginger; cook until fragrant.
  6. Return the beef to the wok with any juices. Pour in broth or water and sprinkle sugar over everything; stir well and cook for another minute.
