  • 1 pound boneless skinless chicken breast (cubed)

  • 4 medium celery ribs (sliced)
  • 1 medium green bell pepper (diced)
  • 1 medium jalapeño (minced)
  • 4 cloves minced garlic
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 2 (15 ounce cans) great northern beans (drained)
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream or plant-based cream (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium-high heat. Add cubed chicken and cook until browned, about 5–7 minutes.
  2. Sauté diced onion, celery, bell pepper, and minced jalapeño for 5 minutes until softened.
  3. Stir in minced garlic along with spices and flour; cook for 1–2 minutes to toast.
  4. Gradually add chicken broth and drained beans; bring to a simmer and let cook for 10 minutes.
  5. If using shrimp, stir in raw shrimp and heavy cream; cook until shrimp are pink.
